FARM and RURAL LIFESTYLE PROPERTIES

Seesholtz, Optional Farm and Poultry Operation

The farm buildings are in good to very good condition. The home is a very much above average home for an original two story farm house.  Other buildings include a two story bank barn, a poultry building for broiler production, a garage/shop, and 3 production greenhouses. The poultry component of the farm has significant income potential.  The farm is only available for purchase with the Garden Center.

The following information and history about the property has been furnished by the sellers:

  • Started in 1974 with a small greenhouse to raise vegetable transplants for our own use.
  • Farmed at this time growing tomatoes, sweet corn, pumpkins, peppers, cantaloupes, and cole crops while increasing greenhouse business.
  • By the early 1990’s the only field crop was pumpkins and that was discontinued around 2005.
  • Greenhouse production space had increased to 33,000 sq. feet by 1995.
  • Rented greenhouses in town for retailing for about 16 years. Out grew space for retailing so broke ground in fall of 1996 for the garden center and opened spring of 1997 with 10,000 sq.feet of additional greenhouse space for retail sales only. Put glass windows across front of greenhouses to view color that is in the inside. Great draw!
  • Have been growing close to 100% of our own plant material for wholesale and retail. Retail now consumes about 75% of our production and wholesale 20+%.
  • Are probably best known for our hanging baskets, geraniums and spring plants and poinsettias.
  • Also produce Easter bulbs
  • Grow 14,000 fall mums in our outdoor growing area on the farm..
  • Service approx. 30 churches with holiday plants.
  • For Christmas we make our own fresh wreaths, cemetery logs and baskets, centerpieces, etc.
